May is the bridge that connects us from spring to summer – a time to break out the grill, enjoy time with family and friends, and create new memories

But it also presents an opportunity to start fresh with new content to include in your communications and PR.

To help jumpstart your month, the Turn Two team have identified some key dates and events to include in your next month’s content calendar.

May 1 –  Mental Health Awareness Month: This presents a great opportunity to connect with local nonprofits and other social good organizations that raise awareness and invest in programs that promote mental health.

May 2 – World Password Day: 123546 just isn’t going to cut it anymore. In an age where all of our information is protected by passwords and two-step verifications, it’s important to raise awareness about using strong passwords for online protection.

May 3 – World Press Freedom Day: This is a day to pay tribute to journalists who have made an impact in your local community, and around the country and world. Most importantly, it is a time to celebrate the press and those involved with making sure the public is kept up to date with all the current news – local and national.

May 4 – The Kentucky Derby: The first leg of the legendary Triple Crown – and a potential hook to frame some PR pitches that play off the Triple Crown or horse race theme. The Preakness follows on May 18 held at Baltimore’s legendary Pimlico Race Track.

May 6-10 – Teacher Appreciation Week: Teachers have always had a special gift for educating our children, but during the pandemic in 2020, they really pulled up their bootstraps to make sure that no child was left behind. Fast forward four years later, and they are still teaching our children, which is why it is so important to take time to appreciate them – especially during Teacher Appreciation Week.

May 17 – Brown vs. Board of Education: It’s the 70th anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court unanimous ruling in the landmark civil rights case Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas that found state-sanctioned segregation of public schools was a violation of the 14th amendment and was therefore unconstitutional. With all of the current pushback on DEI, this offers a strong thought leadership angle.

May 23 – Flower Moon: Last month, many of us experienced several minutes of darkness in the afternoon, thanks to the Solar Eclipse. However, this month, we can expect to experience the Flower Moon.

May 29 – Memorial Day: Make sure to honor all of the veterans who have sacrificed their lives to protect our great nation as well as those who have made a difference in our lives and communities.
