Virtual News Conferences – Here to Stay

With COVID-19 cases declining, and vaccine distribution on the rise, there’s some early hope that we can soon begin to navigate back to a semblance of normal.

Yet there is little doubt that some things are forever changed. One relevant example: news conferences.

The pandemic has transformed how we share information with the media – and we’ve discovered that virtual news conferences and briefings have become a valuable way to get media attention in the socially distanced world.

As I wrote a while back, virtual news conferences have some distinct advantages over traditional on-location press conferences.

Increasingly it appears that virtual news conferences are a win-win for your organization and the media outlets that cover you. Based on feedback we’ve been getting, some reporters at staff-strapped media outlets welcome the virtual approach for its efficiency and the ability to access the recording for fast editing of a segment.

If we stay on course in the battle against COVID-19, it’s likely that in-person press conference will have a resurgence. And they are often the best option, particularly if a certain location or backdrop helps adds a strong visual element to your story.

Still, we’re confident virtual news conferences will continue as a viable option for gaining media attention.

That’s why I’d like to invite you to join us on March 24 at 2 p.m. ET for a free webinar where I’ll share strategies for hosting your own virtual news conference.
