September PR & Content Thought Starters
August 29, 2024
Summer may not officially be over, but don’t tell that to the kids trudging to bus stops across America.
With September’s arrival, we are moving into the final quarter of the year – one that is sure to bring plenty of surprises in the news cycle.
Yet beyond being ready to react to breaking news, here are a few key dates to keep in mind as you build out your September content and PR calendar.
Sept. 2: Labor Day
Take this time to appreciate all the hard work that you and your team have done and rest up – we’re in the home stretch.
Sept 5: With two months before Election Day, use this time to shift your GOTV efforts into second gear to encourage voter registration and head to the polls. Also, it’s time to start considering how the outcome at the top of the ticket may impact your organization one way or another.
Sept 5: On a less serious note, the NFL Season kicks off with the Ravens vs. Chiefs. There’s still time to work a football hook into your content – and plenty to talk about post-game in the breakroom.
Sept. 6: National Food Bank Day
Here is a chance to focus attention on food insecurity in your community — and the negative ripple effects it creates. Encourage community members to support local food banks and spotlight nonprofits that are working in your community to fight food insecurity.
September 8. International Literacy Day
International Literacy Day is a great time to promote the importance of literacy around the world and in your community. Find creative ways to spotlight how your organization supports literacy programs.
Sept. 11: National Day of Service and Remembrance
The deadly attack that happened in our country 23 years ago still leaves a mark on our hearts. Use this day of remembrance to honor those who have served and sacrificed by dedicating some time to giving back and making your community stronger.
Sept. 21: International Day of Peace
As war continues to rage in Gaza and Ukraine, this day couldn’t be more relevant. Identify ways your organization can promote this day and bring people from all backgrounds together to inspire peace and unity.
Sept. 22: Native American Day
A prime opportunity to highlight the culture and achievements of local Indigenous communities.
Sept. 22: First Day of Fall
As the weather begins to change and temperatures begin to drop, now’s a great time to start thinking about helping those in need as winter approaches.
Encourage community members to support coat drives in their area.
