March into Women's History Month: Your Communications Calendar
February 27, 2025
March arrives Saturday — ushering in its annual promise of warmer weather, longer days, and the official start of spring.
Opening Day baseballs will be flying, Oscars speeches rambling, and the green-infused beverages flowing during a month known for coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb.
Here’s the lineup of key dates and events that can serve as strong hooks for your upcoming communications and PR calendar:
National Women’s History Month serves as a time to reflect on the achievements, struggles, and contributions of women throughout history. Look for opportunities to amplify the voices of women in your communities, while showcasing the ongoing work to advance and uplift girls and women everywhere.
Also note that March 8 is International Women’s Day, which celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women around the world.
March 1-7 – National Invest in Veterans Week
Take some time this week to showcase the veterans who served our country and have returned home to do good work in your community. This week also serves as a great opportunity to share available resources and services for mental health, job training programs, and assistance finding affordable housing.
March 2-8 – Words Matter Week
As communicators, we know words have power — and we'll have the chance to celebrate during Words Matter Week.
The week also includes two days that celebrate our fellow word nerds: National Grammar Day (March 4) and National Proofreading Day (March 8).
Use this week as an opportunity to take a deep dive into your organization’s messaging to make the most of the words you use.

March 2 – National Read Across America Day
There’s nothing quite like a Seussian sonnet to provide some clarity in a confusing world. Celebrated annually on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, National Read Across America Day looks to encourage and inspire a love for reading in children. This is a great day to promote any education initiatives your organization supports – or to encourage your team to read to local students.
March 2 – Oscars
The Oscars, also known as the greatest night in Hollywood, celebrates the best in film over the past year. It also serves as a great opportunity to recognize the power of storytelling and the incredible impact it can have on raising awareness about important causes.
March 7 – National Employee Appreciation Day
Take some time on March 7 to show your appreciation for your hardworking employees and all they do to help your organization thrive. The day offers a great chance to publicly highlight the great work of your team – and how they make a difference every day.
March 8-15 – NO MORE Week
NO MORE Week raises public awareness to end domestic violence and sexual assault. Its goal is to help create a culture of safety, equality, and respect in all our communities. Take some time to share resources in your community for those who may be experiencing violence.
Mar. 13 – National Good Samaritan Day
Good Samaritan Day looks to celebrate kindness in all its forms. This is a great opportunity to shout out some of your longstanding donors and partners who help make a difference in the lives of the community through acts both large and small.
March 14 – National Equal Pay Day
In 2024, women in the United States earned about 84 cents for every dollar a man earned. Ridiculous right? National Equal Pay Day not only offers a chance to bring awareness to the pay discrepancies between women and men, it can also highlight work your organization is doing to advance gender equity.
March 14 – PI Day
Whether you love math or a good dessert, this is the day for you. PI, the mathematical constant best known for its first three digits 3.14, is celebrated on March 14 (aka 3.14). While some may test their knowledge to see how many digits of PI they can recite, it also serves as a great excuse to eat some pie.
March 17 – St. Patrick’s Day
Time to break out the green in your closet! St. Patrick’s Day commemorates St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, and serves as a chance to celebrate Irish culture.
March 18 – Opening Day
America’s favorite pastime is back! This year’s baseball season kicks off in Tokyo with a series between the reigning champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Chicago Cubs.
March 20 – First Day of Spring
After what feels like an extra long winter, spring has finally sprung! The arrival of a new season can provide a great hook to promote a new strategic initiative or deliver an inspirational message to rally support.
